Admissions

Merton Council administers all of the school’s admissions. A copy of the Borough’s Admissions Policy is available to download below or on the council’s website, alongside other admissions information.

Nursery Admissions

The first entry point for starting school is Nursery and all 3 and 4-year-old children are entitled to up to 15 hours a week of free early education.  Children are eligible for Nursery the term after their third birthday, and we have a single main intake in September and only if there is space do we admit children at other points of the year. Most children for whom Wimbledon Park Nursery is their first choice are able to secure a place.

3 and 4-year-olds whose parents are working may be able to get up to 15 additional hours a week of free early education and childcare. This is called the extended entitlement (also known as 30 hours). However, we prioritise those families looking to take up their 15 hour entitlement and do not offer an option to extend hours.

Merton Children, Schools and Families department has a useful page of information on the changes, which may be viewed here.

Merton will accept online applications for Nursery places between September 2024 and end of November 2024 for places in the following academic year.  Please note, a place in the Nursery does not give priority for a Reception place.

Reception Admissions

Children start in Reception in the September after they turn 4 years old, with the application deadline in the January of the same year (full details below). We hold prospective parent tours during the Autumn term – please get in touch to make an appointment.

Demand for places into Reception remains high and unfortunately we find ourselves unable to offer places to all families for whom Wimbledon Park is their closest school of choice. For the past years, the furthest distance (in a straight line from the main reception entrance) for places outside of the admission priority area has typically been slightly over 300m.  In the case of an unsuccessful application, the applicant has the right to appeal.
